You Give Kids in Brunswick a Safe Place to go After School

This school year, we began operating an after-school program at Brunswick Middle School from 3-6pm three days per week!

Key partners making this work possible include the Community Foundation of Frederick County, the City of Brunswick, Brunswick Middle School administration, SERVPRO of Frederick County, and the Smoketown Rotary Club.

With your support, we now have 23 youth enrolled in our Brunswick after-school program.

At Boys & Girls Clubs, they get daily snacks, physical fitness time outside or in the gym, mentoring by caring adults, and a safe, positive environment where they can socialize with their peers.

Because Brunswick Middle School isn’t a Title 1 school, any snacks and meals we serve our kids come out of our organization’s budget. Partners like SERVPRO have been donating snacks and beverages regularly to help us stretch our budget even further.

According to United Way of Frederick County, the Brunswick community has the highest ALICE population in our county—with 48% of families in Brunswick unable to afford basic needs like housing, childcare, transportation, food, etc.

To respond to the needs of the community, we have temporarily waived all membership dues for families in Brunswick, as we realized program cost was a real barrier to signing up.

This program is only possible because you support Boys & Girls Clubs. Every gift, no matter how big or how small, allows us to provide much-needed scholarships.

When you give to Boys & Girls Clubs of Frederick County, you are giving kids a safe and positive environment to socialize with their peers.

One of the young people being helped by our Boys & Girls Club in Brunswick is Chase, pictured above in the grey t-shirt.

“My favorite thing to do here is go outside. I love running,” Chase shared.

“The Boys & Girls Club has been a meaningful part of our family’s life, both past and present,” said Chase’s mom Jordan.

“Chase looks forward to going three days a week—it’s where he’s built friendships, explored the outdoors, and has been given the opportunity to practice his genuine love for helping others, especially when volunteering at the Burck Street Club. Seeing him light up when he’s giving back has been incredibly rewarding.”

Jordan continued: “I myself attended the Boys & Girls Club when my father and I lived in Anchorage, Alaska, after returning stateside from Japan. Living with a single father in a rough part of Anchorage, the Boys & Girls Club meant a lot to both of us. It provided a safe, supportive environment while my dad worked, gave me experiences and memories that I still carry with me today, and peace of mind for him. It’s truly special to see that same positive influence now shaping my son’s life.”

With your support, Boys & Girls Clubs will be here to support kids and families for generations to come. Thank you for shaping our young peoples’ lives!
